چکیده

In any medium, pure cultures of microbes are free from associative and competitive effects of other microbes as happens in a mixed culture. When two organisms are capable of utilising the same nutrients but are differently affected by environmental conditions such as reaction of the medium, air supply, temperature, etc., the one that finds condition more suitable for its development will grow more.rapidly and in time may be able to suppress the other. On the other hand, when two or more organisms live in close proximity, they may exert antagonistic, indifferent or favourable effects upon one another. The three important types of antagonisms are (a) repressive, inhibitory or bacteriostatic, (6) bactericidal, (c) bacteriolytic. Different organisms possess different degrees as well as different mechanisms of antagonism; some act directly, and some passively by causing change of Ph of the medium or impoverishment of some of the nutrient constituents of the medium. Though microbial antagonism can be looked upon largely as a result of series of physical factors, in most cases it can be explained by the production of toxic substances bv the antagonist. Prevalence of virulence genes in Escherichia coli isolates of patients with UTI

Abstract Background and Objective: Urinary tract infection refers to the presence of microbial pathogens in the urinary tract and is one of the most common infections in outpatient and hospitalized patients. A wide variety of extra-intestinal infections in humans and animals are caused by the extracellular strains of Escherichia coli (EXPEC). Materials and methods:  A total of 50 E. coli iso...

Evaluation of The Effects of Allium Jesdianum Bacterial Endophytes on Some Bacterial and Fungal Pathogens

Background and Objective: The endophytes are the fungi or bacteria that live within a plant in a symbiotic relationship. This study aimed to investigate the effect of isolated bacterial endophytes from Allium jesdianum on some bacterial pathogens such as Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli as well as pathogenic fungi, including Trichophyton mentagrophytes and Candida albicans. Materials an...

Toward a more systematic understanding of bacterial virulence factors and establishing Koch postulates in silico

Human health is threatened by various infectious bacterial pathogens but is also supported by many commensal bacteria particularly in the intestinal tract. However, many of the bacterial pathogens and commensal bacteria are taxonomically indistinguishable, with pathogenic and commensal bacteria existing in the same genus and even species. A typical example is Escherichia coli, which is commonly...

Isolation and determination of antibiotic resistance patterns of urinary tract infections pathogens in patients who referred to Pol-e Dokhtar medical centers during 2016-2018

Background: Urinary tract infection (UTI) is one of the most common human bacterial infections. The frequent use of antibiotics is associated with increased resistance of many bacterial agents to the treatment.Materials and Methods: A total of 9456 urine specimens were collected from patients referring to Pol-e Dokhtar health centers. All urine samples were inoculated on blood agar plates...

A Product of Heme Catabolism Modulates Bacterial Function and Survival

Bilirubin is the terminal metabolite in heme catabolism in mammals. After deposition into bile, bilirubin is released in large quantities into the mammalian gastrointestinal (GI) tract. We hypothesized that intestinal bilirubin may modulate the function of enteric bacteria. To test this hypothesis, we investigated the effect of bilirubin on two enteric pathogens; enterohemorrhagic E. coli (EHEC...
